A German actress has become the latest to accuse film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and has launched a legal action against him.

Using the pseudonym Emma Loman, the actress has filed a civil lawsuit against Weinstein (66) in California alleging he raped her at the Cannes film festival in 2006.

The actress is understood to be using a pseudonym to protect her privacy.

According to the petition lodged with the court, she lives in Germany and has been working as an actress, model and film producer since 2004.

She alleges that Weinstein invited her to his suite at Le Majestic Hotel in Cannes where he overpowered her and raped her.

Lawyers for Weinstein have denied the allegations and said yesterday that they would seek to have the lawsuit dismissed.

In her lawsuit, Ms Loman claims she met Weinstein in 2004 at the Venice film festival and that he invited her to Cannes to discuss her career.

She said she was reluctant but he was persistent and his assistant called her as often as 30 times a day.

Loman said she finally relented and found Weinstein to be very professional during several meetings. The lawsuit says that changed, however, after he lured her to his hotel suite, allegedly to discuss possible acting roles in some of his films.

Once the two were alone, the petition says, Loman tried to refuse his advances but he “overpowered and raped her”. She claims the tycoon later acted as if “the entire rape had been a standard business meeting”.

Her lawsuit states: “Fearful both that no one would believe her and the potential retaliation from such a powerful figure, Loman stayed silent.

“It was only upon the late 2017 revelation of the scope of Weinstein’s wrongful actions that Loman felt safe coming forward to seek redress.”
